This is a rare part-time opportunity to join a highly regarded, multidisciplinary team at the forefront of motor neurone disease (MND) care and research in Australia, on a 12-month maternity leave cover commencing September 2026.

You'll work alongside a dynamic group of clinicians, researchers and educators as part of the largest research clinic and research centre for motor neurone disease in the country. About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated respiratory physician with subspecialty fellowship training and expertise in respiratory failure and sleep medicine. In this role, you will:

  • Take a lead role in managing the respiratory complications of patients with Motor Neurone Disease, across both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Work as part of a highly innovative, multidisciplinary team within Australia's largest MND research clinic and research centre.
  • Contribute to teaching and education initiatives as part of the MND service and the broader Respiratory Medicine discipline.
  • Engage in research opportunities that translate directly into improved patient care.
  • Deliver holistic, patient-centred care informed by world-renowned research and continuous learning.


This is a part-time opportunity, working on a Wednesday only, offered as a 12-month maternity leave cover commencing September 2026.

About You

You are an accomplished respiratory physician who is passionate about combining outstanding clinical care with academic medicine. You thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and are motivated by the opportunity to improve outcomes for patients living with complex conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease. You bring a commitment to teaching, research and continuous improvement.

Selection Criteria

  • Subspecialty fellowship training in respiratory medicine, with recognised expertise in respiratory failure and sleep medicine.
  • Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a specialist respiratory physician.
  • Experience managing patients with respiratory muscle weakness (desirable but not essential).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • A genuine interest and, ideally, experience in teaching and education.
  • Interest in, or experience with, clinical research and translating research into practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care.
